One top reason behind the success of Canon DSLRs on video is definitely Magic Lantern. It has given Canon users features that Canon itself might not make available in next 10 years. Good news for Nikon, they have something alike now.
NikonHacker, the Nikon firmware hack similar to Magic Lantern for Canon cameras, has just released an updated firmware hack that unlocks full manual video recording on the Nikon D5100.
According to the video announcement below the features were available all along but were just blocked by Nikon’s default 5100 firmware. All they had to do was unlock the features and now full manual control in live view is possible. The proof is in the pudding, check out the video below.
Obviously this firmware is still a ways behind its bigger brother, Magic Lantern, but slowly and surely strides are being made. This latest release is just the most recent proof that a “Magic Lantern” like hack for Nikon is possible, it just needs to get some traction.
You can learn more about this hack from the NikonHacker website here.
What are your thoughts about this? Do you think this NikonHacker firmware can someday get to Magic Lantern status or will Nikon hacks always be few and far between? Share your thoughts in a comment below !
